Nine-year-old Catherine stood watching the ragged man across the street. Her ears were ringing with the jeers of the neighborhood boys. "Look, there's the old drunk!" they yelled. The man's hair was matted and tousled, and his clothes were torn. Wouldn't anybody stand up for this man and be his friend? Suddenly Catherine's heart took over.
Follow Catherine Mumford Booth from a young girl to womanhood as she is led to a generation of people in England that needed "someone to stand up for them and be their friend." Opposed by those in their denomination, the local ruffians, and many others, Catherine and her husband William follow God no matter what it cost them.
