"The Reverend Spy" Audio Drama Teaser Video
I could say a lot here. I could talk about 60+ people coming through our home in one week in October of 2020, many of whom took a turn behind a microphone to record their lines. I could talk about treks to Shelbyville to help listen in to the editing process, and mostly work on stuff while Bobby did the real work. I could mention fall breaks spent working on this and weeks in summers that Bobby and Morganne Pickett gave to this project and endless text threads and phone conversations. I could mention staying a week at Bobby and Morganne’s while Erik Samborski and Bobby Pickett mixed and mixed and mixed some more. And I sat in the room and studied for state licensure exams and provided a tertiary opinion when asked for one.
Yeah, I’ve mostly been along for the ride. I guess one noteworthy thing I did is provide background ambience for a funeral scene in this project. I’m very proud of that. I actually had no memory of what filibustering I did, until Erik messaged me one day while he was doing vocal cleanup for the scene. I guess the line I came up with was something about not voting for FDR in an upcoming election because I wasn’t going to vote Democrat. And my little sister Mercy (also providing background conversation — she’s most famous for a screaming lady in this project) responded how insensitive it was for me to bring politics up at a funeral. None of these lines can actually be distinguished in the final audio drama, but I’m proud of my creativity, nonetheless. You can contact me directly about doing voiceover work or writing lines for a skit or, you know, funeral conversation starters… any of the above. (At least I was being true to the time period in which I was acting).
I grew up reading The Reverend Spy by D. P. Denton and like many of you, was captivated by the courage, character, and keep-you-on-your-toes turns of this World War II story. It was so exciting to get to be a part of turning this story into an audio drama. John Campbell (well known for his work orchestrating Adventures in Odyssey and many Radio Theatre productions) scoring and orchestrating this project was beyond a dream come true. Kind-of glad I insisted my aunt use him for the music.
Watch the video. Buy the 2-CD disc set. Listen for my lines about FDR. You’re going to love it.
My aunt may or may not be paying me commission for sales… okay… that’s a joke. But still, buy it. I’m just trying to get traction for my new voice over gig.
