Cri de Cœur (noun): a passionate appeal, complaint, or protest. ORIGIN early 20th century: French, literally 'cry from the heart.'
So often our prayers search for different avenues in which to express themselves; mediums that will prove more meaningful and lasting than the silent petitions we whisper in sorrow or the abrupt requests we offer in a breath of hurried preoccupation. The collection of songs on this album are just that: simple “cries from the heart” that I wanted to last longer than the moment I prayed them. Compiled as a story, they speak of the goodness of our hardships and the blessing of our thorns. They sing of the sacredness of our solitude and the healing we can find in being broken.
Broken, not by some unseen force that seeks our destruction, but by a loving heavenly Father who knows what is best for us, Who caused his own Son to suffer that He might bring us to Himself. And we can rest assured that his eye is upon us and his ear is bent low to hear our cries.
So I invite you to listen to the story… dressed in a song and offered as a prayer. My hope is that maybe a chapter of this tale will find its way into your heart and help to begin the bitter process of healing.
As A.W. Tozer once said, “We need never shout across the spaces to an absent God. He is nearer than our own soul, closer than our most secret thoughts.”
May you find him closer than your cri de cœur.
